Why would you participate in a trance dance? There can be many reasons or intentions:
Trance Dancing is a healthy form of movement, for people of all ages. You can adjust your dance pace according to your physical condition. During sports and dance, your brain produces endorphins, creating a sense of happiness and well being.
Trance Dancing is a good way to release limiting conditioning. During our lifetime we develop all kinds of skills for survival, to function in society. But sometimes we learn things that make us feel bad about ourselves or our lives; things that get in the way of a happy life. Also some ideas and habits haven’t evolved with changing knowledge and circumstances, and are due for revision. A trancedance ritual can help you transform old habits and adapt an attitude towards life, that is better adapted to the present.
Trance Dance can help you with transitions in your life: a new job, cohabiting, a child leaving the house,…. Similarly, you can create specific rituals for moments like midsummer or midwinter, starting a new year when releasing the old, and welcome the new, dancing to the rhythm of nature.
Trancedance can be a source of inspiration, for all kinds of aspects in your life, i.e. the start of a company, the making of art, the writing of a book….
Trance Dance can be a moving meditation; a dancing prayer. Even as a group you can jointly choose an intention; hence uniting power, i.e. dancing together for peace, dancing together for inspiration…
Traditionally shamans dance for other members of the tribe. In the same way as you would light a candle or pray for someone, you can trancedance for someone. During the dance you might carry on you, a picture of your loved one or place it on a shrine.
Trance Dance can be a method to bring trauma to the surface, and process and internalize it. The setup of the ritual, with the use of blindfold, music, dance and breathing facilitates easy access to the subconscious. The events that are presented on this website do not aim at intensive therapeutic work. If you come for this purpose, please discuss this with your therapist, and with us, first.
